Terms of service

The rules for participating in GEO and for using this website. Written to be read, not to be skipped.

Last updated: 31 August 2026

1. Acceptance

By registering for the Global English Olympiad (GEO) or using this website, you agree to these terms. Where the participant is a minor, the parent or guardian and the registering school accept these terms on their behalf.

2. Eligibility

  • Open to students in Grades I to X at a registered participating school.
  • All boards are eligible, including CBSE, ICSE, IB and State boards.
  • A student must be entered by their school; direct student entry is not available.
  • A student may appear in one grade only, and it must be their current grade.

3. Registration

Schools register through this site and receive a school code. The school is responsible for the accuracy of the student details it submits, including name spelling, grade and date of birth, and for obtaining parental consent before submitting them. Corrections requested after the registration deadline may not be possible once papers have been printed.

4. Fees and refunds

  • The exam registration fee is ₹299 per student and covers both Level 1 and Level 2. There is no separate Level 2 fee.
  • There is no fee for a school to participate.
  • Syllabus booklets are optional and priced separately.
  • Fees are refundable up to the registration closing date. After that date papers are printed and allocated per school, and fees become non-refundable.
  • Fee waivers are available for students at government and low-income schools, at our discretion, on application by the school.

5. Conduct of the exam

Level 1 is written at the student's own school and invigilated by school staff under instructions we supply. Level 2 is written at a designated regional centre. Students must carry a printed admit card and a school photo ID.

Any form of malpractice — copying, impersonation, carrying prohibited material, or removing exam material from the hall — will result in disqualification without refund. We may also disqualify an entire centre where malpractice is systemic.

6. Evaluation and results

  • Answer sheets are machine-scored and then verified. There is no negative marking.
  • Level 2 qualification cutoffs are determined after Level 1 is scored, per grade and per region, and are set at our discretion.
  • National ranks are decided on the Level 2 score, with published tiebreak rules.
  • Requests for re-verification must reach us within 15 days of the result being published, quoting the school code and registration number.
  • Our decision on evaluation and ranking is final.

7. Prizes

  • National Rank 1 receives ₹25,000 + Certificate Frame. National Rank 2 receives ₹10,000 + Certificate Frame. National Rank 3 receives ₹5,000 + Certificate Frame. Total National Toppers Award pool: ₹40,000.
  • One State Topper from each class in each state receives ₹3,000 + Certificate Frame. The student must score at or above the prescribed cutoff marks.
  • The School Topper — the highest eligible scorer from each participating school — receives a Gift Hamper + Certificate Frame. The student must score at or above the prescribed cutoff marks.
  • Every student who participates in Level 1 receives a Participation Certificate. Every student who qualifies for Level 2 receives an Achievement Certificate.
  • Cutoff or qualifying marks apply for State Topper and School Topper recognition.
  • Prizes are non-transferable. We may substitute a prize of equivalent value where circumstances outside our control require it.

8. Cancellation and changes

We may change exam dates, venues or the award ceremony where circumstances require it, including for reasons of safety, public health or force majeure. Where we cancel the exam entirely before it is conducted, registration fees will be refunded.

9. Intellectual property

Question papers, syllabi, sample papers, booklets and the content of this site belong to IEOF. You may download and print papers for personal or classroom preparation. You may not republish, resell or use them commercially without our written permission.

10. Use of student names and images

We publish a topper's name, school and rank, and use photographs from the award ceremony, only where we hold written parental consent. Consent may be withdrawn at any time by writing to info@ieofoundation.org.

11. Liability

We are responsible for conducting the exam and awarding prizes as described. We are not responsible for travel to exam centres, for a school's failure to conduct the exam as instructed, or for losses arising from inaccurate details supplied at registration. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Hyderabad, Telangana have exclusive jurisdiction.
