Can I register directly as a student, without my school?

No. GEO is conducted at your own school, so registration is handled by your school co-ordinator. If your school is not yet registered, ask them to contact us.

How does my school register?

A teacher or administrator submits the school registration form on this site. We then send the co-ordinator a school code, the registration sheet and the exam handbook.

Is there a limit on how many students a school can enter?

No. Schools may enter as many students per grade as they wish.

What is a school code and where do I find it?

Every registered school gets a unique school code. You need it together with your registration number to download booklets and check results. Your school co-ordinator has it.

How many levels does GEO have?

GEO is a two-level examination. Level 1 is the School Level exam held at your school. Students who qualify proceed to Level 2, the Regional Level exam.

What is the exam pattern?

Multiple-choice, split across word power, grammar and usage, reading comprehension and — for Grades IV upward — an achievers section carrying double marks. Full section-by-section detail is on the exam pattern page.

No. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so it is always worth attempting every question.

A printed admit card, a school ID, and an HB pencil and eraser for the OMR sheet. Grades I and II write directly on the question booklet and do not use an OMR sheet.

How do I qualify for Level 2?

Level 2 is for students who qualify from Level 1. Qualified students are notified through their school and on the results page.

Where is Level 2 held?

At designated regional centres. Qualified students are told their centre along with their Level 1 result.

How are national ranks decided?

On the Level 2 score. National Rank 1, 2 and 3 receive cash awards from the ₹40,000 National Toppers Award pool.

What are the cutoff marks for State and School Topper?

Cutoff or qualifying marks apply for State Topper and School Topper recognition. Students must meet the prescribed cutoff marks to be eligible for these awards.

What are the National Topper cash awards?

National Rank 1 receives ₹25,000 + Certificate Frame. National Rank 2 receives ₹10,000 + Certificate Frame. National Rank 3 receives ₹5,000 + Certificate Frame. Total National Toppers Award: ₹40,000.

What does a State Topper receive?

One State Topper from each class in each state receives ₹3,000 + Certificate Frame. The student must score at or above the prescribed cutoff marks.

What does a School Topper receive?

The School Topper is the highest eligible scorer from each participating school. They receive a Gift Hamper + Certificate Frame. The student must score at or above the prescribed cutoff marks.

Every student who participates in Level 1 receives a Participation Certificate. Every student who qualifies for Level 2 receives an Achievement Certificate.

The exam registration fee is ₹299 per student, collected by your school co-ordinator.

Is the syllabus booklet compulsory?

No, it is entirely optional. The full syllabus is published free on this site. The booklet simply bundles it with practice questions and answer keys.

Is the registration fee refundable?

The fee is refundable up to the registration closing date. After that the paper has been printed and allocated, so it is non-refundable.
